There are several reasons to stop using regular in-store deodorant. They come in plastic or metallic packaging, implying a lot of waste and harm to the environment. They also contain a lot of toxic chemicals that are harmful to your health as they act as hormone disruptors which disturbs the body’s systems. Also, they contain carcinogens, irritate the skin, stain your clothes, and are expensive.
As an alternative to deodorant, I make my own by mixing coconut oil and baking soda. This not only reduces the waste resulting from buying deodorants but is also a healthy and natural alternative that does not affect the body negatively.
Simply, you add up the same ratios of coconut oil and baking soda. So if you use one spoon of coconut oil you add one spoon of baking soda.
Coconut oil has antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties. I usually add a few drops of essential oil just to give it a fresh smell. Then you just mix the ingredients until a paste is formed.
Easy, natural, sustainable!
